A Note From the Headmaster

Dear GP Community,

I want to share a book recommendation with you. The book is controversially titled The Coddling of the American Mind. It’s one of those titles that’s intended to provoke; however, the ideas are powerful. In essence, the book explores some of the history and reasons for a new generation of adolescent behavior and attitudes. The authors, both scholars, suggest that some of the ancient wisdom that has guided humanity for millennia has recently, and unfortunately, been turned on its head. Rather than “preparing the child for the road ahead”, the road is being prepared by adults so that children are often unable to mature and to work through and overcome challenges. The book has been endorsed from the likes of Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Neil Degrasse Tyson, Robert George, and a host of others. This important book has pushed me to think harder about my aims in raising my own children and the goals of our shared work at Glendale Prep.

If you are interested, here’s a recent interview with one of the authors: https://www.npr.org/2018/09/04/644446963/authors-of-a-new-book-take-on-the-coddling-of-american-minds

Have a great weekend!

Very best,
Brandon Crowe
Headmaster

Payment Portal Tip
Unsure if you’ve purchased a yearbook, paid your athletic fees, or need proof of your Community Investment donations? Log into your payment portal account, click on “Account” at the top and then “Orders” and “Order History”, and you can find all the purchases you have ever made. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Hayakawa at shayakawa@glendaleprep.org.

Athletics
Please note that when athletes are released early for a sporting event, it is not required for parents to come in to sign them out. Students are released through the gym lobby doors for a quick and easy pick-up by parents as to allow students to conserve their time in the classroom as much as possible.

Remember to bookmark the Glendale Prep Athletics Events Page to keep up to date on all of GP’s upcoming athletic events.

Community Investment
Did you know…

Your Community Investment supports students! AJ Palubinskas who spoke at this year’s first student assembly inspired our scholars with,  “…your world grows every day you spend here at this school, learning truths!”

Your Community Investment supports teachers!  Mr. Withers spoke on, The Six Loves of Glendale Prep. He illustrated how Virtue, Western Tradition, Freedom and Human Dignity, Philosophical Realism, Conversation and Community, and Humility are the foundations of Glendale Prep.

Please support our amazing students and teachers here to give to this year’s Community Investment campaign.

We are honored to publicly recognize those families and friends who have contributed to this year’s Community Investment campaign.
