A Note From the Headmaster

Dear GP Parents,

In The Abolition of Man, C.S. Lewis writes, “The task of the modern educator is not to cut down jungles but to irrigate deserts.” Lewis, here, admonishes teachers to inspire students to love wonderful things, rather than to cynically nudge toward skepticism. We, at Glendale Prep, heed Lewis’ advice. Next week, we want to show and tell you more about the way we view and enact our educational vision. Our annual Curriculum Night is just the occasion for this! We encourage all parents to attend this event, during which you will spend time with each of your child(ren)’s teachers, visit with those running extracurricular activities, and hear from the school’s leadership about what we love. Please see below in this blast for further information. We look forward to seeing you on Thursday evening!

Sincerely yours,
Brandon Crowe
Headmaster

Curriculum Night
We would like to invite all Glendale Prep parents to our Curriculum Night on Thursday, August 30th. This is our annual kick-off event and an excellent opportunity to meet our administration and faculty and discuss our curriculum and educational pedagogy.

We will begin at 6:15 p.m. in the gym lobby with sign-in, an informational fair, and refreshments. We will then transition to classroom presentations. Teachers will give a brief lesson in their classrooms; parents will have the opportunity to follow their child’s class schedule and visit with their teachers. This is a parent-only event. Please click on Curriculum Night to sign up for the event.

Arrival & Parking
The campus will open for parking at 6:00 p.m. Please do not arrive before 6:00 p.m. All vehicles will enter from 83rd Ave., and the first 60 cars will be directed to park perpendicular to the building’s main sidewalk. After these spots are filled, all parking spots throughout the lot will be available, including the student parking lot. Parents should enter the building through the north gym entrance. We look forward to seeing you soon.

GP Family Handbook
The academic philosophy, code of conduct and character expectations are just a few of the important elements that sets Glendale Prep apart from other schools. We are asking all parents and students to read through the handbook and sign by Wednesday, August 29th. Please complete that now here. If you have any questions regarding the handbook, please contact Assistant Headmaster Mr. Navarrette at KNavarrette@glendaleprep.org.

GP Ties
Glendale Prep ties are on sale to all Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors for $25. Sophomores will receive their ties in October when blazers are distributed to the upperclassmen.

Volunteer Fingerprinting
We will be providing an opportunity for volunteers to be fingerprinted on Thursday, August 30th, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Fingerprint clearances issued by Glendale Prep are valid for Glendale Archway, as well. If you are planning to volunteer at the school or any school event, you will need to go through the fingerprinting process. The school incurs a $20 fee for each volunteer fingerprinted. If you are able to make a donation to help offset the cost, we would be grateful. Donations can be made on the payment portal, or by cash/check to the front office.

2018-19 Yearbooks – Back to School Special
There’s still time to pre-order your 2018-19 GP Yearbook at the early bird price of $45! Order online on the GP Payment Portal by Friday, August 31st to take advantage of this discounted price!

Community Investment & Tax Credit
Free Money For Our School!
Did you know that you can double or even triple your Community Investment and Tax Credit donations to Glendale Prep? Many companies will match your donations to our school through their Corporate Gift Matching Programs.

If your company does have a Matching Gifts program, please submit the appropriate paperwork to your Human Resources department. Please contact Cathy Sparks at csparks@glendaleprep.org or 602.889.0822 with any questions.

Having your gift matched is an easy way to increase the impact of your donations to Glendale Prep without any additional cost to you. And your support will provide our faculty and students with the resources they need to learn and thrive. Thank you!

College Counseling
Please check out the College Counseling Page for the most up-to-date information about on-campus college visits, application workshops, and other important events and dates.

Junior Night is next Monday, August 27th, in the Archway Multipurpose Room from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. All juniors and their parents are expected to attend this program to learn about what comes next in the college search and process.

On Tuesday, August 28th, Glendale Prep will be hosting a Common Application Workshop from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. for seniors who will be applying to colleges and universities that utilize the Common Application. Students should bring a laptop computer as well as a copy of their resume, transcript and social security number.

Additionally, there will be a second and final University of Arizona application workshop after school on Tuesday, August 28th. Students who did not attend the first workshop and are applying to U of A are expected to attend.
