A Note From the Headmaster

Our community has a heart to serve. Over the last two weeks, I have seen so many people give of themselves for what we care about most- our children. Here is the list, and it goes on and on and will continue to do so as we finish out the school year:

  • Ms. McLoughlin led our teachers and students in finishing AzMerit testing.
  • Mr. Hawkins has taken the lead on closing out our Spring Sports season.
  • Both Archway and Prep office staff organized a day to thank the dozens of volunteers who served throughout the school year.
  • Senior parents made breakfast smoothies to celebrate our seniors on matriculation day.
  • Mrs. Ayer and our PSO met for the last time this school year, then looked forward to 2019-2020.
  • Mr. Terpstra and our APO (Athletic Parent Organization) met for the second time and spent time with our new Athletic Director.
  • Mrs. Lister (a GP parent), our office staff, teachers, and parents gave up time on an early release day to help so many of our student-athletes complete their physicals.

It has been a busy and exhausting two weeks, but a blessing nonetheless because I am reminded so often of your dedication to your children, not only to their education but their moral formation. Our hope is that they come to have a heart of gratitude to then see their own calling to serve as well.

Sincerely,
Mr. Navarrette
Headmaster

Griffin Athletics
Meet the New Athletic Director:
Parents, please come and meet our new Athletic Director, Mr. Garrison on Wednesday, May 8th, from 5:15 p.m.-6:15 p.m. There will be light refreshments and a time for fellowship.

Uniform Turn-In: Uniform return for all middle school and high school athletes will be in the Gym on Monday, May 6th at 3:10 p.m. Please ensure your student brings their uniform to school with them that day for turn-in.

Spring Sports Awards Ceremony: Our Spring Sports Award Ceremony is  Thursday, May 9th. We will be honoring our teams from both middle school and high school that night. The middle school awards will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. and high school awards at 8:00 p.m. There will be a 15-minute intermission between the two ceremonies to celebrate with cake. Those families who do not have high school athletes may leave after cake; however, you are more than welcome to attend both ceremonies. Young men should wear a dress shirt and tie, and ladies should wear a modest-length skirt or a dress with hems that approach the knee or dress pants. For more about the Non-Uniform Dress Code for Special Events, please see the Family Handbook here. We hope you all can make it to support our student-athletes!

Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week
Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week is next week, May 6 – May 10th! The PSO will continue the annual Teacher/Staff Gift Card Give-A-Way by providing $10 gift cards for local grocery stores, restaurants, and other options (Amazon, Fry’s, Target, Trader Joes, etc.). Please purchase gift cards in increments of $10.00 and deliver them to the front office labeled “PSO Teacher Appreciation” or donate online here and the PSO will purchase gift cards on your behalf.

If you are interested in volunteering to assist with any of the week’s activities for our teachers and staff, please contact Debbie Ayer, at president@glendalepreppo.org or 623-628-9815.

Textbook Returns
Glendale Prep is proud to be able to provide physical textbooks for students’ use. These remain the property of Glendale Prep and should be returned in good condition at the end of the school year. All students were asked to cover their textbooks to help protect the binding and cover these books at the beginning of the school year.

Please begin to ask your child(ren) if they have all textbooks that were issued to them and if they are in good condition prior to finals when books will be checked by their teacher. If a book cannot be located and returned by the last day of school, the amount to replace the textbook with a new one will be taken out of the textbook deposit. See the list of textbooks for each grade level here.

Community Investment
Thank you for supporting Glendale Prep through your giving to Community Investment!  Truly it is because of the generosity from our community of families that Great Hearts can cultivate the minds and hearts of students to pursue Truth, Goodness, and Beauty.  Your support of our Glendale Prep campus allows our seventh-grade scholars the opportunity to create great models in Ancient History and find beauty in these structures.  Please enjoy!
