A Note from Headmaster

Hello Parents,

I wanted to use this blast to ask for your participation. First, this Saturday from 4-8pm is The Night of the Griffins, and it would be wonderful to see you and your families at this wonderful event. Our PSO has put in countless hours and so much thought to make this a special night for our community. I would like to thank Mrs. Ayer, Mrs. Kennedy, Mrs. Greathouse, Mr. Crawford, Mr. Gonzalez, Mrs. King, Mrs. Winkleblech, Mrs. Roundy, Mrs. Bhakta, Mrs. Cleland, and DJ Moe. I would also like to thank our gold sponsors- Shipley Orthodontics, CareScape Landscape, The Gaston Family, The Webdale Family, The Greathouse Family, The Kennedy Family, WinCo Foods, Mahan Realty Group, and The Kwan Family.

The second item is a Great Hearts Quarter 3 survey that will be sent to all families next week. Your participation in this survey is vital for knowing how best to build upon what we are doing well as a school and consider necessary areas where we can improve. The survey is designed to take only a few minutes. There may be an option to leave comments, where you can share how you feel about your child’s experience at GP. I would so appreciate your taking the time to complete this survey.

Sincerely,
Mr. Navarrette

PSO Used Uniform Sale
The PSO Used Uniform Sale for GP and Archway is tomorrow, Saturday, March 9th from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Archway Multi-Purpose Room. Volunteers are needed. If you are able to help, please email PSO volunteers, Rosario and Raquel at glendalexchange@gmail.com.

Night of the Griffins
Join Glendale Prep families tomorrow, Saturday, March 9th, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. as we celebrate our annual family event: Night of the Griffins! Arrangements have been made for food trucks, games, a photo booth, a cornhole tournament, Zorb Soccer, outdoor activities, lip-sync competition, raffles, a DJ, 80’s attire theme, puppies for adoption, and an online auction. It is a great time to meet new families and hang out with old friends. Admission is free, but bring money for food and raffles. See more exciting details here; we can’t wait to see you there!

Senior Thesis Panels
Senior Thesis Panels will begin this coming Monday, March 11th.

All panels will take place after school and consist of two main parts:  1)  The Thesis Presentation: a brief presentation (of about 10 minutes) in which the student will highlight the essential ideas of the paper; and 2) The Thesis Panel Discussion: a panel of three faculty readers will be convened to conduct a discussion with the student about his or her Thesis. Family, friends, and members of the Glendale Prep community at large are invited to attend. Please enter through the front office and sign-in.

Next week the following students will have their panels:

Panel Date/Time Senior Student
Monday, March 11th at 3:30 p.m. Rachel Ong
Tuesday, March 12th at 3:30 p.m. Keaton Roberge
Wednesday, March 13th at 3:30 p.m. Samantha Aime

National Spanish Examinations
High School students studying Spanish will be participating in the National Spanish Examinations during their regularly scheduled Spanish class on Monday, March 11th and Tuesday, March 12th.  The National Spanish Examinations are a motivational contest to recognize student achievement in the study of Spanish and to stimulate further interest in the teaching and learning of Spanish. Due to the standardized nature of the test, it will not be possible to reschedule the test if your student is absent.

Re-Enrollment Sign-Up
Great Hearts re-enrollment emails for current 6th-11th graders were sent out Monday. All re-enrollment packets will be accepted by appointment next week, the mornings of March 12th – March 14th in conjunction with Archway Glendale.

  • Schedule your re-enrollment appointment here. Only one appointment per family, per school is necessary. If the times offered are a hardship for your family, please reach out to Mrs. Hayakawa right away at shayakawa@glendaleprep.org.
  • The re-enrollment email will instruct you to log on to the enrollment portal, fill out the re-enrollment packet for each of your students, print single-sided, and sign. The email will include the appointment Sign-Up link if you did not make an appointment prior.
  • Please ensure you correct any outdated contact information.
  • In addition to the packet, you will need proof of AZ Residency that matches the address on the re-enrollment form.

National French Contest
High School students studying French will be participating in the National French Contest during their regularly scheduled French class on Wednesday, March 13th. The exam is developed annually by the American Association of Teachers of French as a motivational contest for students of French. Due to the standardized nature of the test, it will not be possible to reschedule the test if your student is absent.

Senior Trip
The Senior Trip to D.C. is next week! Seniors, plan to arrive at Sky Harbor, Terminal 4, at 4:15 a.m. this coming Thursday, March 14th. Our flight, Southwest 2540, departs at 5:55 a.m. Students are allowed one checked bag, one carry on, and one personal item. Additional information about baggage policies can be found at Southwest.com. Schedules, metro cards, and debit cards will be handed out to the students at the airport. Please check the weather the day before; below is what is currently forecasted. If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Roiger at rroiger@glendaleprep.org. Bon Voyage!

2020 Summer Spain Trip
If you missed the opportunity to attend last week’s meeting for the 2020 Summer Spain Trip but are interested in receiving more information, please reach out to Mr. Allison at callison@glendaleprep.org.

Uniform Shorts Permitted
As a reminder, khaki uniform shorts may be worn upon our return from Spring Break on Monday, March 25th, until the end of the school year. Shorts should go to just above the knee but not below, and should not be excessively tight or loose-fitting. White, ankle-high socks may be worn with shorts.

7th Grade Field Trip
The 7th Grade Field Trip to the Wildlife World Zoo is scheduled for Tuesday, March 26th. All families have paid and given permission for the field trip as a part of their consumable contribution, therefore, no further action is needed.

Regular Uniform Dress Code is required; however, students are strongly encouraged to wear athletic shoes and sunscreen. Students will depart by bus at 8:30 a.m. sharp (please arrive by 8:00 a.m.) and must bring a sack lunch. Only water is permitted on the bus. Students will be released at the usual time of 3:05 p.m. The expectation is that all seventh-grade students will attend. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. McLoughlin at tmcloughlin@glendaleprep.org.

Community Investment
We believe the study of History is vital to the moral formation of our students. A Great Hearts education at Glendale Prep immerses students in the details of history and prepares them for the thoughtful exercise of American citizenship and for engagement in global civilization.

Ms. Roiger’s 7th grade Ancient History students held a mock Ekklesia meeting to vote on “changes” to improve the school. Tyler Kmetty addressed those gathered with the aid of his podium (Keaton Kovaly). Scholar Rylee Daukas proved to be a powerful voice in the debate, and the members of 7A ostracized her as a threat to democracy and a potential tyrant. Job well done, 7A and 7B!

Your support in Community Investment allows us to offer this amazing curriculum to our students!

We are honored to publicly recognize those families and friends who have contributed to this year’s Community Investment campaign.

To make a pledge to Glendale Prep’s 2018-19 Community Investment campaign you can:

Thank you for supporting our scholars!
