A Note from Headmaster

Hello Parents,

It has been a wonderful first week back from Spring break. It was great to see the energy and smiles of our students as they reconnected with one another and their teachers. I anticipate a strong finish in 4th quarter as our students learned of the personal goals each teacher recommended in the evaluations along with grades that were sent out earlier this week. Please encourage students to meet with teachers regarding these goals and other ways to improve.

I understand that Great Hearts recently sent out a parent survey. The goal is to invite you to share with network leaders about your perspective and experience of Glendale Prep.

Parent perspective is vital to affirming strengths, as well as learning of areas where we can improve. I would like you to take a few minutes and complete a survey to share your perspective regarding Athletics at Glendale Prep. It is essential that we work to make every aspect of the student experience excellent and meaningful. We often hear about parent perspective regarding academics and culture, but I would also like to gain insight regarding athletics.

Please complete the survey on Athletics here and know that Mr. Drake and I will read through each comment.

Sincerely,
Mr. Navarrette

Tax Credit
Don’t miss the deadline to make your tax credit! Arizona Public School Tax Credit contributions must be made by April 15th to receive your dollar-for-dollar credit on your state taxes.

Do you have questions about the Tax Credit and how it is a win-win for you and our school? Please contact Cathy Sparks at 623.889.0822 ext. 1502 or csparks@glendaleprep.org

Great Hearts Gala 2019
Hello! My name is Shannon Richards, and I will be serving as the 2019 Great Hearts Gala Chair for Archway Glendale and Glendale Prep. Funds raised at the event support our outstanding faculty and the Teacher Excellence Fund. Right now we are in need of auction and raffle items. If you can donate, please email me at srichards@greatheartsaz.org.

Griffin Players Drama Performance
Please join the Griffin Players for their spring production of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead by Tom Stoppard on Friday, April 5th at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 6th at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Come see what happens when two minor characters in Shakespeare’s Hamlet become aware that they are in a play, and the story gets turned on its head as we follow the struggles and questions of the “little guy”. The play will be presented “black box” style with the audience seated on the stage so tickets are extremely limited. Don’t miss out, get your tickets today here on the GP payment portal. Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for others.

Senior Thesis Panels

Lessons will be every Tuesday and Thursday beginning March 26th-April 25th from 3:30 p.m.-5:00 p.m. in Room 303. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Roiger at rroiger@glendaleprep.orgIt is the responsibility of the student to reach out to Ms. Roiger or Ms. McLoughlin as soon as possible if they anticipate any schedule conflicts.

SAT – Tuesday, April 9th
In lieu of AZMerit testing for high school students, we will administer an in-school SAT for all of our 11th grade students. This is something our 11th graders take each Spring for college applications. We believe this serves our students well in a number of ways; particularly, we can build off the results of PSAT scores and help students achieve benchmarks.

Glendale Great Hearts Science Fair
The first annual Glendale Great Hearts Science Fair is Saturday, April 13th, from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. We have 17 students registered, representing grades 4th-9thgrade. The students are very enthusiastic about this Science Fair, and we need volunteers to make this the best possible experience for our scholars!

Please view the Genius SignUp page here and see if you can help!

If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Ustach at custach@glendaleprep.org.

France 2020
If you were unable to attend the family meeting on Tuesday, March 27, but would like more information on this exciting opportunity, please contact Madame Pereira at cpereira@glendaleprep.org.

8th Grade Field Trip
The 8th Grade Field Trip to the ASU Planetarium is scheduled for Thursday, April 11th. All families have paid and given permission for the field trip as a part of their consumable contribution, therefore, no further action is needed.

Regular Uniform Dress Code is required. Students will depart by bus at 8:15 a.m. sharp (please arrive by the start of school at 8:05 a.m.) and must bring a sack lunch to be eaten after their visit; so please DO NOT order a hot lunch for your 8th grader that day. Only water is permitted on the bus. Students will be released at the usual time of 3:05 p.m.

The expectation is that all 8th grade students will attend. If your student is unable to attend, please contact Ms. McLoughlin at tmcloughlin@glendaleprep.org.

College Counseling
Save the Date: Great Hearts will be hosting a BYU Representative, Levi Heperi, on Tuesday, April 16th at 7:00 p.m. at North Phoenix Prep. He will provide information on BYU, the application process, and life as a BYU student, as well as answer questions. Be on the lookout for an email this week with registration instructions.

Emory, Johns Hopkins, Notre Dame, University of Virginia, and Wash University in St. Louis will be hosting an information session on Thursday, May 2nd at 7:00 p.m. at Phoenix Country Day School.
