A Note from Headmaster

Hello Parents,

I spent all day Monday and Wednesday of this week at the 1st Annual Symposium for National Classical Education. This event was hosted by ASU and involved a number of speakers, panel presentations, Q&A and seminar discussion. It was delightful to see first-hand the growth of classical education and the emphasis on the liberal arts tradition. Represented at the symposium included:

  • Over 400 participants
  • 26 states
  • 74 K-12 schools
  • 16 colleges and universities

I was reminded of why Great Hearts and Glendale Prep exists- parents want their children to receive an education where their students read closely, discuss intelligently, and write carefully. One speaker helped reaffirm the blessing of discussing great stories and pondering meaningful questions that open the hearts and minds of students. This is something that is lost in educational philosophy today. The goal for so many appears merely practical- the purpose of school is for students to go to college; the purpose of college is to get a job. The idea of going to college and getting a job is not in conflict with providing quality education to students with an expectation of excellence and commitment to tradition. They are not mutually exclusive; laying a solid foundation of thoughtfulness, wonder, and goodness will undoubtedly lead to going to college and getting a job. We have proof of this over the last decade as so many graduates have attended and graduated from college to enter the workforce, not only with the ability to make a living but to exercise wisdom and utilize skill in service to others.

I cannot thank you enough for your commitment to our mission; so many parents have joined the movement to affirm school choice by revolutionizing education for the benefit of what we value most- our children. As I write this- Great Hearts will serve over 13,000 students in Arizona and Texas next year, nearly 11,000 students are on a waitlist at various times throughout the school year, and 1,200 teachers remain firmly committed to the great calling of classical education.

Sincerely,
Mr. Navarrette

Community Investment
The study of Science is an integral part of the Great Hearts curriculum. At Glendale Prep, we believe that Science nourishes critical and creative minds. Our scholars discover the Nature of Science, Life Science, Earth Science, Biology, Physics I and II, and Chemistry. By teaching Science as a liberal art, we prepare our scholars for technical studies in college and beyond.

Community Investment supports each and every student in our science curriculum! This includes the entire Freshman class with their Organelle Projects from Biology!

We are honored to publicly recognize those families and friends who have contributed to this year’s Community Investment campaign.
