A Note From the Headmaster

This last Wednesday evening, we had two guest speakers for a parent event. GreatHearts Director of Counseling, Lauren Katz, our Glendale Prep counselor, Molly Caldwell, presented on anxiety. The presentation was followed by a time of questions and answers. Here are a few takeaways that I think are important for all parents to know:

  1. All humans struggle with anxiety; some anxiety is good given the situation.
  2. Anxiety becomes a concern or problem depending upon the severity, duration, frequency, and if it leads someone to avoid what he or she needs.
  3. Some strategies for parents when addressing anxiety include responding in a non-judgmental way, helping to implement calming strategies, and talking through the feelings and experiences with your son or daughter.

View here a handout from the evening on stress.

We are hoping to have at least one more talk in the Spring, so I hope as many of you can attend and benefit from it as possible. Look for information about the Spring session in a weekly blast.

Sincerely,
Mr. Navarrette
Headmaster

PSO SNOWSTORM
It’s a tradition to allow parents to thank our teachers and staff via the PSO Snowstorm every year. The Snowstorm lasts through December 14th. Donations can be made online at the PSO Spirit Store.

You can also send your donations in with your student or hand them to one of the PSO volunteers on the curb all next week. All monetary donations collected will be pooled, divided evenly, and presented to faculty and staff as an amazing gift before the holiday break. We encourage families to participate as this donation is meant to be in lieu of individual holiday gifts for our teachers and staff.
